Mon SCT Day 4

I slept well last night, with only one wake-up wee. Very kindly, the nurses left me to last to wake up this morning for the first set of obs and blood test. No results yet, but they’ll let me have them when they come up.

I’m feeling a bit more woozy, less wanting to do things, dry mouth still and slight diarrhoeia. I made myself eat some toast with peanut butter, but couldn’t face a second slice. I drank some fruit juice drink, which tasted good. I’m trying to keep my mouth from getting too dry, but sometimes it’s hard to swallow just water.

I livened up a bit when Hannah and Lisa came in to make my bed. We had a lively chat about books and knitting. But I’ve drooped again now. I don’t have a lot to say, so maybe I’ll doze a bit.

My friend may not come in today as she was feeling a bit sick earlier and obviously doesn’t want to bring me anything other than nice treats. But I’m feeling very quiet anyway, so it’s ok. I’m in bed, not showered, just reading, listening to podcasts and checking out holidays.

A nurse just brought in my blood count and I’ve updated the spreadsheet, but my neutrophils are still relatively healthy at 2.2. Damn them! Go down!!!!

Late this afternoon, I finally pushed myself to get out of bed, put some clothes on and go out. There’s a woman with leukaemia in the ward below me. We met in clinic a few weeks ago, so I thought I’d check in on her. She’s had quite a hard time, spent more time in than out of hospital since October last year. But she knows how to do it well… kettle, teas, photos, pictures, craft work, sweets… She keeps a bag packed ready for her hospital stays.

I didn’t spend long with her as she was tired. I went outside, sat on a bench in the sun with my book, then when it got a bit chilly, walked down to the bus stop and back, before coming back to my little room. Glad I went out, but still feeling low.

Now going to try to eat half a baked potato and salad. Not sure I’m quite in the mood for it, but I’ll give it a go. Gary, the young kitchen guy said they’d run out of baked potatoes and tinned fruit. Poor show! At least I still have Tunnocks Caramel Wafers, dark chocolate hobnobs and my trusty jar of Nutella. 🙂

I’m looking forward to my friend bringing me some ice pops, Superberry Purple Juice and a small pot of couscous or pasta salad, but that’ll have to wait till tomorrow. Hope I’ll feel like eating then.

About Jet Black

I began blogging because having been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, I wanted to share my experiences of living with an incurable cancer. Through blogging, I discovered that I enjoy writing. I have always chosen to live life for the journey, more than the destination. This is as true for the act of writing as it is for living with myeloma, so these are two things I do: I live and I write!
